Mom Ganguly is an extremely talented classical dancer, who was born into a cultured Bengali family where music and dance was nurtured by the elders of the family. Having received her initial training from guru Shakti Nag, and later Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam from Guru ThankamaniKutty in Calcutta, she did her ARANGETRAM in 1988 and performed widely in Kolkata for various cultural, corporate and charitable organizations. After passing her class ten board exams from Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata with high first division, she started her specialized training in MOHINIYATTAM under the guidance of Padmashree Guru Smt Bharati Shivaji of Delhi. She has also passed her M.A. in fine arts, in Dance, from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.

         Mom Ganguly’s dance performances have been widely appreciated by serious critics of these art forms. Her facial expressions, supple body movements and striking stage presence, makes her a dancer in the true sense. Her Guru sees a lot of promise in her dancing abilities and hopes to see her as one of the forerunners of Mohiniyattam dance gharana in the years to come.

         Back home, Mom is involved in various activities regarding promotion of indigenous dance forms of North Eastern India, with the association of the Ministry Of Culture of Tripura. She is the convenor and editor of the Matribhasha Mission in Kolkata along with few other head of states and helps in promoting and propagating folk arts and handicrafts of Eastern and North Eastern India. She is also the examiner for the bachelor’s degree and masters degree examinations of Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata for the last five years. Mom also initiated a movement for propagating classical art forms by forming an organization called Touryatrikam.

     Mom believes that classical art forms should be encouraged from school level and awareness to adopt a classical
                         art form should be encouraged by parents. Encouraging the youth of India to organize classical
                         programmes in schools, colleges and localities would enable them to be  aware of their deep
                         rooted culture and help them to keep  a balance between the east and the west.
                                  Mom is presently residing in Kolkata where she practices and teaches
                              Mohiniyattam.She is also working very actively with her Guru & centre for Mohiniyattam
                             in their  various productions.She also contributes  in the research and choreography of
                            their various productions.Mom is a senior student of Padmashree Guru Smt.Bharati Shivaji.
